The French American Chamber of Commerce of the Southeast and the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce-Georgia invited young professionals to join the 7th YPAWD for a nice after-work evening, to network and connect with other young professionals, entrepreneurs and small business owners!

The event was held at Le Bilboquet, an upscale light-filled cafe & restaurant featuring traditional French cuisine, located at the center of Buckhead Atlanta.

Matias Bonnier

Matias Bonnier is a self-proclaimed Swedish-American “hybrid.” He was born in California to Swedish parents and raised in Sweden but returned to the U.S. to receive higher education. He has worked within engineering and management for GE, AT&T and Lucent Technologies, among other things. He has also been sitting as a Chairman for the Karl-Adam Bonnier Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. Today he contributes immensely to the Swedish-American Chamber as the the chairman of SACC-USA.

The work that SACC’s J-1 Visa trainees perform throughout the network and affiliated businesses.

Mention an inspiring person you’ve met through SACC!

Without a doubt, Gary Bruce.  He has been my greatest sounding board during my tenure as the Chairman of SACC-USA.

How do you extend/maintain your network?

Work. The more I work, the more new people I meet and more opportunities to re-meet.

Top 3 things about your city most people don’t know?

Columbus, Ohio: Home to the Battelle Memorial Institute, the world’s largest private research and development foundation; Chemical Abstracts Service, the world’s largest clearinghouse of chemical information; NetJets, the world’s largest fractional ownership jet aircraft fleet, The Ohio State Fair is the 3rd largest US State Fair, Ranked as the no. 1 up-and-coming tech city in the nation by Forbes in 2008 and ranked a top ten city by Relocate America in 2010.  The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was rated no. 1 in 2009 by USA Travel Guide and, In 2008, COSI was the named the #1 science center in the United States for families by Parent Magazine.

Ohio: In 2010, Ohio was ranked No. 2 in the country for best business climate by Site Selection magazine, based on a business-activity database. The state has also won three consecutive Governor’s Cup awards from the magazine, based on business growth and developments. As of 2010, Ohio’s gross domestic product (GDP) was $478 billion. This ranks Ohio’s economy as the seventh-largest of all fifty states and the District of Columbia.  Almost 60% of North American population is within 500 miles from Ohio (or an overnight trucking distance).

International Night at IMC Georgia

On June 18, the IMC of Atlanta’s International Business Community hosted a gathering of diverse professionals.

Co-Host organizations were the Ecuadorian-American Chamber of Commerce, the French American Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta, the Georgia Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, the Latin American Chamber of Commerce of Georgia and the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce – Georgia.

Trip to Savannah with Mr Göran Lithell, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in D.C.

In connection to Sweden Day 2015 special guest Mr. Göran Lithell, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, went together with the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce-Georgia (SACC-GA) and members from the chamber on a visit in Savannah on June 4th. All members from SACC-GA was invited to join us on the trip to Savannah.

The Swedish delegation was hosted by the World Trade Center Savannah and Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA). The visit included a private tour of the Georgia Ports Authorities, a round tour at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), a lunch at World Trade Centre Savannah and in the evening SACC-GA hosted a reception at Restaurant Pacci in the historic district of Savannah. The Swedish delegation also had the opportunity to go on a guided tour at IKEA distribution center.

Pictures from Sweden Day 2015

Sweden Day is the event organized by SACC-Georgia, The Consulate of Sweden in Atlanta, and cooperating organization SWEA in celebration of the National Day of Sweden. The event was held in beautiful Magnolia Hall, Piedmont Park with around 100 guests who all had the opportunity to network with the Honorary Consul of Sweden, Mr. Mikael Norin, special guest Mr. Göran Lithell, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Washington D.C.,  representatives from the Mayor’s office among other invited dignitaries, and the Swedish-American community in Georgia.

The guests enjoyed catered food with a Swedish twist from Petite Auberge, listened to Swedish traditional music performed by Tim Rued, and finally traditionally joined in singing the National anthem of Sweden “Du gamla, Du fria”.

Inaugural Golf Tournament Winner Announced

On May 19 SACC-GA hosted a golf tournament at the beautiful Berkley Hills Country Club. It turned out to be a great day with golf, networking and lots of fun.
Congratulations to the winners, Jan Meijer and Caroline Donohue, with a score of 58!
Caroline was also the player that came closest to the pin.
We are thankful to the SACC-GA golf committee; Jan Meijer, Jonas Jarvholm and Hans Olof Lofstrand, for taking the initiative and making this possible!

On Tuesday, May 12, 2015, nine European Chambers* co-hosted the European Social Mixer at the Glenn Hotel in Downtown Atlanta. The panoramic city views and relaxed atmosphere were enjoyed by more than 160 attendees.
